Downtown Nauvoo Scavenger Hunt
Can you find these unique fun finds in downtown Nauvoo? These are all located in the 1200-1300 blocks of Mulholland Street. Can you find them all in 30 minutes? Snap a pic and tag with #BeautifulNauvoo on your Social Media account.
1. Horseshoe In the Sidewalk
Many feet walk over this horseshoe every single day and don't even know it's there. It's located on the public sidewalk, no need to go off the main path! If you are looking for which store it's in front of you won't find one, just grass. Can you find it??
2. Temple Stone Lintel
This piece of the original Nauvoo Temple is not far from where it once graced the top of a doorway. Now it sits on the ground as part of the foundation. No bull!! Can you find it??
3. Fairy Doors
Nauvoo is home to people and fairies and if you know where to look you will find the doors to the fairy houses all over Nauvoo. There are around 30 doors all over town. Which one is your favorite??
4. White Cross
This cross is right on the side of the wall facing Mulholland Street. It's easy to spot if you pay attention. Can you find it??
5. Star
Look up high and see a star! Nauvoo brick buildings often have these stars on them. They are the end caps for metal support bars that help hold the buildings together. How many can you spot?
5. Mesker Brother's Storefront
Did you know that you could order a storefront out of a catalog? The Mesker Brother's in Saint Louis manufactured cast iron pieces that could be added to buildings. Can you spot this one?
6. Murray Iron Works
Murray Iron Works was in Burlington, Iowa and they also made decorative storefronts. Can you find this Murray logo piece on a Nauvoo storefront?
7. Nauvoo Jail
The old jail in Nauvoo is a little off the beaten path. It's made from old Nauvoo Temple Stone and you can see it from the new Nauvoo Temple. You will need to walk towards the police station or find the City Park to see this unique piece of Nauvoo's past.
8. Porthole Door
This door looks like it belongs on a space ship, or a submarine. Where do you think this door would take you? Can you find it on Mulholland Street?
9. Lion
This guy might be a little harder to spot. He is in a fairy garden near some fairy wings. At one time he was on Mulholland Street in front of the Lion's Club building. But now he guard's a flower bed.
10. IOOF
Do you know what this stands for? Independent Order of Odd Fellows is a fraternal organization that started in England in 1891. The group focuses on works of charity and fellowship. Though Nauvoo no longer has a lodge, this building was once owned by them. Can you find it??
