The new Nauvoo City Center is the result of extensive community discussion, planning, and fundraising, addressing the need for a physical and social hub for the city. Designed to foster a strong sense of community, the center also serves as a catalyst for attracting events that celebrate Nauvoo’s historical significance and natural beauty. The building opened in November 2023, with the library, city offices, and food pantry moving in during that month. A grand opening celebration will be held on April 13, 2024.
As part of the fundraising efforts, bricks, and pavers were sold to line the front sidewalk of the City Center. These bricks serve as a tribute to those who have made a lasting impact on the community, whether it be relatives, businesses (past and present), organizations, or schools.
The Capital Campaign Committee is still accepting donations to enhance the Nauvoo City Center with landscaping planters, additional parking on the west side (Barnett Street), completion of the irrigation system, a flag pole, and an outdoor sign. Donations can be sent to City Hall at 1445 Mulholland, Suite 2, Nauvoo, IL 62354.
The community room is designed to host a variety of public and private events, including city council meetings, senior citizen lunches, business conferences, family reunions, weddings, hobby shows, concerts, professional training, school gatherings, and more. The room can accommodate up to 130 people in banquet seating or 292 in auditorium seating. While the space is versatile, it is not designed for basketball or fitness activities. It is available to any group or individual willing to comply with usage rules set by the city council, with scheduling priority given to public uses in Nauvoo.
For more information or to schedule the community room, call the city office at 217-453-6648.
