Airbnb showcasing the Hotel portion of the historic "Fleming's Tavern". This is the location were the conspirators plotted the assignation of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum in 1844. After the murders were successful 40-60 of the mob came back to this house to celebrate their victory. We have opened up a portion of the home as an Airbnb. The location has many historical artifacts. We are also promoting the preservation and education of the Warsaw House/Hotel, Warsaw, IL. and its history.
We are basically serving the worldwide community of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who are interested in diving deeper into the local Church history of Nauvoo and Carthage Illinois, the martyrdom, and the events leading up to the Anti-Mormon sentiment of Thomas Sharp and those he surrounded himself with. Non-members interested in local history, 1800 architecture, and those just passing through the area are, of course, ALL WAYS WELCOME!!!!
We found the location in Warsaw, Illinois where the conspirators plotted the murder of Joseph Smith quite by accident. After a successful mission for our church, we decided to go to Nauvoo on vacation (2023). We LOVED the area and wanted to find a place to rent for a couple of months to check things out but alas!!!! it was 3 weeks before the Nauvoo Pageant and "there was no place at the Inn". To fill up some time while waiting to find a place to stay, we asked a local realtor to show us some homes in the area that were for sale. Crazy enough, the first house we were shown was the historic "Flemings Tavern"! Who would have known that you could buy a property like this on the open market! After the successful purchase we immediately notified the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that this historic property was now in "Mormon hands" (first time ever!). After much searching for the correct people within the organization of the Church to talk to we were finally successful in alerting the Church History Dept. that the property was being restored and would eventually be opened at various levels for the public to visit. The rest, shall we say, is history!!
