Scenic Fall Leaf Walks

Nauvoo is breathtaking in the fall, with vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold blanketing the town and the riverfront. Take a stroll through Nauvoo State Park or wander along the Mississippi River to soak in the crisp autumn air and stunning views. The Historic Sites are especially beautiful this time of year, with tree-lined paths and historic buildings framed by colorful leaves. For an unforgettable drive, head along the River Road between Nauvoo and Hamilton, where the winding route offers some of the most spectacular fall foliage in the region. Don’t forget your camera—the colorful leaves and historic streets make the perfect backdrop for family photos and cozy fall memories.

Scarecrow Festival

Every October, Nauvoo’s streets welcome some fun and friendly new residents—scarecrows of every shape, size, and personality! Lining Mulholland Street for the entire month, these creative displays bring a touch of fall magic to the heart of town. Some are silly, some are spooky, and others are just plain funny, each with its own unique character. Whether you’re out for a leisurely stroll, enjoying the crisp autumn air, or bringing the kids along to see how many scarecrows you can spot, Nauvoo’s scarecrow tradition is a delightful way to celebrate the season.

Oktoberfest

Nauvoo became home to a large German immigrant population in the 1850s, and each fall that heritage is celebrated in style. On the Friday before Halloween weekend, the Nauvoo Historical Society hosts Oktoberfest—a community event filled with authentic German food, lively polka music, and plenty of family fun. It’s a festive way to honor Nauvoo’s history while enjoying a night of good music, great food, and togetherness.

Pumpkin Walk

Pumpkin Walk is the highlight of the fall season in Nauvoo. Featuring hundreds of carved pumpkins lining Mulholland Street, this event is a community favorite! Stroll up and down the business district to enjoy the carved jack-o-lanterns while drinking hot chocolate and sampling pies and other food from various vendors. The highlight of the evening is the Halloween parade with a kazoo band, costumes, and Halloween themed vehicles. Small town living at it's finest!
